Events of the week: Railways, Gas and Borders. Armenian-Azerbaijani expert dialogue on the future of the South Caucasus
Key events of the past week
On CivilNet, conflict analyst Arsen Kharatyan from Yerevan and political scientist Farhad Mammadov from Baku analyse the prospects of US involvement in the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement. During the discussion, the analysts note that the Trump administration’s activity in the region may significantly decrease, given the shift of US priorities towards the Middle East and the crisis in the Gaza Strip. According to experts, even the appointment of Louis Bono to a new position will not change the situation, as his main attention will be focused on the Middle East problems. In this context, experts predict that the resulting vacuum of American presence may try to be filled by the European Union, which is already actively involved in the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiation process.
The programme was prepared within the framework of the ‘Line of Contact’ joint initiative of Yerevan and Baku Press Clubs.
