Mediation and dialogue in the South Caucasus: A reflection on 15 years of conflict transformation initiatives
A reflection on mediation in civil diplomacy processes
This publication reflects on 15 years of civil society mediation and dialogue initiatives in the region, particularly through civil diplomacy processes facilitated by International Alert and other Western non-governmental organisations.
The book analyses the details, dynamics and impact of civil peacebuilding with the aim of lessening and ‘bringing down to earth’ the overly harsh critique of civil diplomacy following the August 2008 war. It seeks to identify at what level civil diplomacy can have an influence, and what it can realistically achieve. It also aims to assess what type of initiative is worth continuing, what should be dropped, what should be kept ticking over and what could be safely ignored.
